Varanasi, aka Banaras or Kashi, is situated on the banks of the Ganges (Ganga) in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Considered as one of the seven sacred spots for Hindus and has attracted seekers and pilgrims for more than 2,500 years, this holy city. For every visitor or tourist, Banaras has a different experience to offer. It could be the gentle waters of the sacred Ganges; the high banks or the ancient “Ghats’. Even the serenading boat ride at sunrise, euphemistically called “Subah Banaras”; the meandering narrow zigzagging alleys of the city, the array of shrines, the myriad temple spires, the ashrams, the palaces at water’s edge and so on.
